Paver repair and restoration

Pavers need some maintenance over time. This patio had two things going on. In several spots the pavers had settled into low pockets you could feel underfoot...the kind your chair leg finds before you do. And the whole surface had gone flat and gray. If pavers are not sealed, they will fade in the sun light. The customer asked if we could fix the sunken areas and bring some life back to the dull pavers.

We pulled up the settled sections and got down to the base. It was gravel alone, which is why they moved in the first place. We replaced the gravel base with a gravel and sand/cement base that will hold the pavers in place much longer than a gravel base alone, then reset the pavers back to grade.

After that it was the whole patio. We cleaned all of the pavers, removed vegetation from the mortar joints and re-sanded all of the joints with a sand/cement joint filler. We added a masonry border around the perimeter to help keep the edge pavers from moving and applied a wet look sealer to bring the color back out of the pavers.

All finished and ready to enjoy.
