Fireplaces and New Chimneys
Fackrell Masonry and Construction builds new fireplaces and new chimneys across southern Idaho: floor-to-ceiling stone fireplaces with hearths and mantels, and full-height chimney chases clad in stone from the framing up.
A fireplace is the one piece of masonry people sit right next to, so it gets built accordingly. The last one went up in stacked stone from the floor all the way to the ceiling. The firebox sits under an arch of tapered stone with a heavy stone shelf above it for the mantel. The hearth runs out to one side as a bench you can actually sit on. The space underneath is left open for firewood, so the wood is right where you need it instead of out on the porch in the snow.
New chimneys are the outside half of the same work. We picked up a log home chase framed and wrapped, ready for stone, and clad it the full height of the gable end off scaffold. A cast stone cap went on top, with a few lighter accent pieces set into the face. It reads like it has always been there.
With engineered stone we work to keep mortar off the finished rock as we go. On a chase that tall, that saves a lot of cleaning nobody wants to pay for. Some of that one got built under floodlights after dark, which is about how it goes when you are a couple of hours from home and the weather is cooperating.
What this covers
- Floor-to-ceiling fireplaces built in stacked stone
- Arched stone surrounds over the firebox opening
- Stone mantel shelves, and hearths built out as a bench with open firewood storage underneath
- New chimney chases clad in stone the full height of the wall, worked off scaffold where the height calls for it
- Cast stone caps, and lighter accent stones set into the face
- Engineered stone set so mortar stays off the finished stone
- Picking up a chase that is already framed and wrapped and taking it through to finished stone
Questions people ask
Do you build fireplaces in Boise and southern Idaho?
Yes. Our service area is all of Southern Idaho, between the Oregon and Wyoming borders. That reaches as far north as McCall, Stanley, New Meadows and Salmon. I work from Nampa in the Treasure Valley and Blackfoot in eastern Idaho, so mountain properties are well within range. Start with the quote form at https://fmandc.com/intake/.
Can you build a stone fireplace that goes all the way to the ceiling?
Yes, and that is what the last one was: stacked stone from the floor up to the ceiling. The firebox sits under an arch of tapered stone with a heavy stone shelf above it for the mantel, and the hearth runs out to one side as a bench, with the space underneath left open for firewood.
Do you build new chimneys, or only repair existing ones?
Both. On a log home we picked up the chimney chase framed and wrapped, ready for stone, and clad the full height of the gable end, finished with a cast stone cap. Repair and rebuild work on existing chimneys, including caps, flue liners and loose brick, is covered on the chimney repair page.
Can you take over a chimney the builder has already framed?
Yes. That is exactly how the log home chase came to us, framed and wrapped and ready for stone. We took it from there, up the full height of the gable end off scaffold, through to finished stone and a cast stone cap.
How do I get a quote for a fireplace?
Everything starts at the quote form at https://fmandc.com/intake/. Tell us where the job is and what you are picturing, and send photos of the space if you have them. Fackrell Masonry and Construction is a veteran-owned Idaho masonry family, working under Idaho contractor license RCE-41697. Whether that carries five years or one depends on the job, and you will know which before you sign.
