New chimney in engineered stone

A new chimney chase on a log home clad in mortared engineered stone from the framing up, finished with a cast stone cap.

Service: Fireplaces Photos: 6

We picked this one up framed and wrapped, ready for stone. The chase runs the full height of the gable end on a log home out in the pines, so everything above the deck came off scaffold.

You can see the sequence in the middle photos: the top is finished stone while there is still lath showing down low. On a chase this tall, keeping the finished stone clean as you go saves a lot of cleaning nobody wants to pay for.

We burned some midnight oil on this one. There is a photo of the scaffold lit up after dark, which is about how it goes when you are a couple hours from home and the weather is cooperating.

All done. Cast stone cap on top, a few lighter accent pieces set into the face, and it looks like it has been on that house since the day it was built.
